Selectors put the finishing touches to Team GB’s 2016 Olympics squad when naming the rugby 7s team on Tuesday with 366 athletes heading to South America for the extravaganza which begins on Friday, August 5.

An amazing 54 athletes will represent Yorkshire – including four swimmers – with second-time Olympian Willmott confident the 28 GB athletes heading for the pool can better the one silver and two bronze they snared at London 2012.

Willmott, 23, who won two silvers and one bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will be joined by Sheffield duo Ellie Faulkner and Max Litchfield plus Leeds teenager Georgia Coates – with the latter duo making their Games debuts – and said: “I think we are a lot more hungry to do well.

“I think in London, because it was a home Games, was so exciting and only talking from my point of view, I was quite young and I realistically knew I wasn’t going to win a medal. For me, the aim was to finish as high as possible.

“This time, there is a lot of people that are up there in the top five of the world rankings with myself in and out of them and Adam Peaty as well, and then you’ve got James Guy and Jazz Carlin. There’s so many people that are doing really well in the world rankings and I think if everyone can just be calm and enjoy it and perform as well as we can, then we hopefully should come away with some medals.”
