Return of Legue is boost for Finnerty

Sheffield Steelers’ hopes of retaining their Elite League title have been boosted after forward Jeff Legue’s decision to return for a fifth season.

The 30-year-old, from Cornwall, Ontario, fired in 40 goals and added as many assists during the 2010-11 campaign, which saw Ben Simon’s team secure a third top-flight regular season title for the South Yorkshire club.

Concerns that Legue would use his title-winning success to earn a more lucrative deal in Europe proved unfounded after new player-coach Ryan Finnerty persuaded him to stay.

Finnerty, who hopes to reveal more new faces in the coming weeks, said: “The pieces of the jigsaw are coming together nicely – I have managed to keep a great core of last year’s team while also bringing in some new faces.”
