Rio 2016: '˜Hurricane' Hannah Cockroft named in Team GB athletics squad

Halifax's double gold medallist Hannah Cockroft will have at least three chances to win gold after being named in the first wave of track and field athletes selected for the Rio Paralympic Games.

Cockroft, 23, joined four-time London 2012 champion David Weir in headlining a 13-strong selection for the Great Britain squad.

The wheelchair racer, nicknamed Hurricane Hannah following her exploits at London 2012, will attempt to defend her T34 100m crown and go for gold in the 400m and 800m.

Weir booked his place for a fifth Games and could land at least another two gold medals in Brazil as he competes in the T54 1,500m and marathon.

World record holder Aled Davies will compete in the shot put and defending champion Richard Whitehead had his place in the T42 200m confirmed.
