Rob Marsden: No reward for all our hard work at weekend

That was a tough weekend I tell you. Two games in two days, travelling over 400 miles as well, that was an experience.

We were glad to be playing Worcester Wolves again so soon after they blew us out because we really wanted to put things right.

Everything on that night went wrong. But we held our hands up and we wanted to give a better account of ourselves.

After beating Plymouth as well, who lost in the BBL Cup Final, we thought to ourselves that we can compete against these types of teams.

I think we definitely proved that for most of the game we really challenged them and they had to work really hard for the win.

Unlike the week before where they didn’t need to get out of second gear.

The first half I would say we really went toe-to-toe with them.

We didn’t let them get away from us, we made them put up some tough shots.

Eddie (Matthew) was on fire on the perimeter his shooting was incredible and lifted everyone in the crowd and on the court.

We came out strong again at the beginning of the third again made it a really tight game for the most part a basket, or one hitting of the iron and coming out could have swung it our way.

Tiredness played a part I think. When you are giving your all for so much of course you will tire, I think they have seasoned players that are used to this and a deep roster so they had that advantage.

In the final quarter again we rallied and pushed but they had done just enough to secure the win. But in no way should anyone feel bad about the way we played.

Maybe I put myself in that bracket actually. Putting up only six points is shocking by my own standards let alone coach Matt Newby’s.

My stat’ sheet doesn’t make good reading. Maybe If I was a little hotter the baskets would have gone in and we could be sitting here talking about a win.

Then after a night’s rest a long trip down to Surrey to take on the Scorchers in a huge game, they have the final play-off spot so we needed to close that gap.

I would say the game took a similar pattern to the night before. A really tight, high energy game of basketball was played.

Both teams were going all out for the win. I think we were always in the game. First half we were only ever a basket behind or level so we were confident we could win.

We took the lead a couple of times and but they wrestled it back off of us. They hit us hard in the third and we were a bit cold so they got a lead.

That was probably where they won the game in the end. We did get back into it but that might have been it.

It was disappointing not to pick up any points with the two performances we put in. We were strong and aggressive, everyone put a shift in, when you don’t get rewarded for it, it can hurt a little.

But, now we have a week off. We took a day or two to recover from the games and now we can work on a few things, try new things.

Then be raring to go for the visit of Manchester at the end of the month.

Hope to see you all there and leave with a big smile knowing we beat them.
