Roses match day 2: Yorkshire finally break through

YORKSHIRE leg-spinner Adil Rashid struck shortly before tea as Lancashire reached 101-1 in reply to Yorkshire's 447 all-out at Old Trafford.

Rashid dismissed Stephen Moore for 40 with a return catch after the home team made a spirited response in the Manchester sunshine.

Yorkshire's bowling was generally wayward during a largely disappointing afternoon session.

But Rashid gave them a semblance of control when he came on to bowl from the Brian Statham end.

Earlier, Yorkshire added five runs to their lunchtime score of 442-9 before Steve Patterson's gritty innings ended on 27 when he was caught at long-leg hooking.

At tea on day two, Paul Horton is unbeaten on 46 and Simon Katich undefeated on three.

Yorkshire had claimed maximum batting points after play began 20 minutes late due to rain. Richard Pyrah and Patterson lifted the total from an overnight 379-8 past the magic 400-mark.

Pyrah went on to 32 before becoming the only wicket to fall during the morning, run-out by Steven Croft from point after trying to push a single off Daren Powell with the score on 418.
