Rotherham Titans v Doncaster Knights: Results matter as Titans close Clifton Lane programme

Titans welcome Doncaster Knights for a fixture that has connotations at both ends of the Championship table, as well as the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy.

Doncaster need two points to ensure their second-tier status while a victory that yields either a bonus point, or deprives Rotherham of a losing bonus, will earn them the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy.

For Rotherham the incentive is five points to keep the race for the fourth and final promotion oplay-off spot firmly in their hands, ahead of what looks set to be a winner-takes-all contest with their closest rivals Nottingham next Friday night.

“I wasn’t pleased with our performance at Moseley two weeks ago but we got that five points and that’s all that matters at this stage of the season,” said Blackett.

“This is a big derby for our fans, the fixture they look for first.”

Today’s fixture is the Titans last at Clifton Lane this season. They will play their final home regular season game – and any play-off games – at Abbeydale Stadium in Sheffield, because Rotherham Town Cricket Club take over at Clifton Lane.

It is still unclear where Rotherham will be playing next season.

Blackett said: “It’s our last game of the season at Clifton Lane so we want to make it really special for our supporters.”

Doncaster’s director of rugby Clive Griffiths said: “It’s a game we are all looking forward to, especially those with Rotherham connections.”
