A MISSED conversion in the final seconds meant hosts Driffield had to settle for a losing bonus point.

The Halifax side were in front for much of the game, but it was far from one-sided.

Centre Jack Howard touched down early for Crossleyans and stand-off Chris Jones converted. Driffield hit back through No 8 Sam Beechall unconverted try and took the lead through centre Lee Birch's penalty.

Crossleyans edged in front with Jones's penalty and were awarded a penalty try as Driffield pulled down the scrum three times close to the line, Jones converting.

Birch kicked a second penalty, then scored and converted his own try as Driffield battled back into an 18-17 lead after the break.

But Crossleyans' full-back Chris Seymour scored near the posts and Jones added the extras.

Rob Merry raced down the line to score but the conversion was blown off target by the strong wind and Crossleyans held out for victory.

Pontefract 16 Northern 12

Northern proved a much tougher proposition than their early form suggested and Pontefract had to work hard.

Two penalties by Andy Dean put them 6-0 up at the break but the visitors hit back early in the second half with an unconverted try.

Pontefract broke the visitors' defence when scrum-half Matty Hargreaves made a break before feeding Simon Spears who put Dean over.

Dean added the conversion and a penalty but Northern had the last word with a converted try in the final minute.

Percy Park 30 Old Bodleians 20

A first-half lapse of concentration and indiscipline after the break cost Brodleians.

They produced some good rugby to twice hit back after the home side got on top. Adam Standeven went over after Park scored their first try, and Jack Moon raced in at the corner when Park again looked like dominating.

Brodleians then let their concentration slip and allowed the visitors a third converted try.

Oliver Ackroyd landed a penalty in the second half but Brodleians conceded three successive penalties before Ackroyd went over for a late try which he converted.

Cleckheaton 35 Carlisle 18

Cleckheaton scored five tries to two against plucky opponents.

They took advantage of the wind and scored tries through Ross Hayden, Richard Piper and Andy Piper complemented by two penalties and a conversion from stand-off Iain Gordon. Carlisle's try came from winger Dan Holmes and they came more into the game in the early part of the second half and a penalty from stand-off Grant Connon reduced the arrears.

A try from lock Dave Freeman earned Cleckheaton's first try bonus point of the season but Grant Connon replied with a penalty.

Man of the match Richard Piper then had a try disallowed for a forward pass but soon scored after a rolling maul. Iain Gordon added the conversion before Carlisle gained a consolation try from Holmes.

Wheatley Hills 22 Durham City 7

Wheatley Hills moved into the top three with their fourth win from four matches.

Wheatley took the lead after 13 minutes when, from a scrum 10 metres out, No 8 Gareth Burns slipped a pass to flanker Tom Griffiths, who went over for a try which Guy Townsley converted.

Durham pressure was rewarded when centre AJ Smith raced in for a try and Arnie Stevenson converted.

Wheatley's backs gained the upper hand Burns touched down near the corner flag.

Wheatley were camped in Durham territory for much of the second half but there was no further score until six minutes from time when Townsley kicked a penalty before full-back Craig Jeffels completed a move with a try which Townley did well to convert into the breeze.
