Round-Up: Mellonby's late conversion crucial

Yorkshire One: Top of the table Malton and Norton's scheduled match at second placed Sheffield was among the casualties as frozen pitches again disrupted the league programme.

Lowly Bridlington scraped a 28-27 home victory over third-placed Keighley to move ahead of Scarborough, Selby and Castleford.

Securing their fourth try and the resulting bonus point in the last minute, Bridlington opened their account with winger Steve Mellonby kicking a penalty. Although stand-off Alex Brown matched it shortly after, Mellonby scored two tries and kicked a conversion to put his side 15-3 ahead.

Centre Ben Johnson touched down just before the break to help Bridlington into a 20-11 lead, with captain and No 8 Lee Sugden having touched down for Keighley.

Michael Phillips raced through for a Keighley try in the second half and Brown added three penalties and a conversion which put Keighley 27-21 ahead, but full-back Martin Robinson scored a late try which Mellonby converted to take the win.

York, previously in sixth place, moved ahead of their rivals with a 46-18 home win over Knottingley.

Winger Billy Cakaunitabua ran in two of York's seven tries, with the others from Jack Buxton, Jon Dawes, Charlie Nicholson, James Mulroney and Sam Potrykus.

Castleford slipped another place, to ninth, when they were defeated 15-3 in their home match against lower-placed Ilkley.

Yorkshire Two: The top two sides in Yorkshire Two, Huddersfield YMCA and Pocklington, were both left without matches when their games against Leodiensians and West Park Leeds, respectively, were postponed because of ground conditions.

Moortown, previously in third place, suffered an unexpectedly decisive 57-29 defeat at mid-table Doncaster Phoenix, and the sides are now level on league points.

Doncaster had turned round 24-14 down, but defended well in the second half and had a 20-minute purple patch to finish with eight tries on the board.

Winger Tom Elliot and Craig Deakin, who had switched from full-back to centre, both ran in two tries in the second half.

Barnsley took Moortown's place in third position with a 38-0 home victory over bottom side Old Rishworthians.

Tries from flanker Joe South, centre Andrew Buckingham, flanker Tom Naseby and winger Daryll Cheetham helped them to a 26-0 half-time lead, and they extended that with Andrew Smith and Rob Jeffrey scoring in the second half. Andrew Appleyard kicked four conversions for Barnsley.

Yarnbury moved ahead of their rivals into fourth place with a 34-17 home victory over Hullensians, their sixth straight win.

Carl Paterson converted all four and added two penalties.

Chris Smith landed a penalty and converted tries by Jason Knapp and John Burrell for the visitors.

In the other Yorkshire Two match to go ahead, between two sides who were previously level on league points, Ripon moved ahead with a 20-15 win at West Leeds.

Winger Humphreys and centre Moss-Blundell scored Ripon's tries, and Steve McAra kicked both conversions and two penalties.

For West Leeds flanker Joe Cocking, centre Sam Neave and winger Danny Thorpe scored their tries, but it was not quite enough.

Yorkshire Three: Leaders Wath on Dearne extended their winning run to 14 matches when they ran in eight tries in a 48-18 win at Old Modernians.

Steve Wesson and Joe Earp ran in two tries each, and there were others from wingers Adam West and Ben Keen, prop Brendan Angel and No 8 Matt Burrows.

Baildon moved up to second ahead of Goole, who have two games in hand, when they won 8-3 at Hessle.

Aireborough moved ahead of their rivals with a 17-13 win at Rotherham Phoenix, after turning round 7-3 down.

Thornensians maintained their place in mid table with a 37-5 win at bottom-placed Old Otliensians.

The match was held up for 20 minutes when Thorne hooker Scott Campbell suffered an injury to his upper back and neck, but he was able to walk into an ambulance which took him to hospital for a precautionary check-up.

Winger Brett Hunt scored two tries for Thorne, the first converted by Oliver Cox to put the visitors 7-0 up before Otliensians replied with their try by captain and No 8 Robert Arbuckle. Gareth Sutton also scored two tries in the second half and centre Dean Martindale touched down for another on his debut.
