Round-Up: Salem prove no match for Keighley

Yorkshire 1: Keighley saw off bottom-of-the-table Bradford Salem 25-10 to hold on to fourth place in the division.

Winger Lucas Uren broke from midfield to touch down under the posts for Keighley, with Alex Brown converting before Jimmy Anson scored out wide.

Brown failed to add the extras but made amends when he knocked over a penalty to earn his side a 15-0 lead at the break.

Brown converted his own score after the resumption of play, and although the visitors hit back with a forwards' try improved by Matt Booth who then added a penalty, Brown replied with a penalty of his own as Keighley secured their seventh win of the season.

Knottingley maintained their impressive start to the league campaign with a 28-20 victory over Ilkley.

Centre Chris Turton touched down twice, while scrum-half Steve Rockett also scored a try and kicked a drop goal.

With two conversions and two penalties, Dave Evans completed the scoring.

Replacement Alex Webster orchestrated a comeback victory as Selby beat Bridlington 22-10 in Yorkshire 1.

Bridlington led 10-5 at the break after tries from prop Rob Medforth and scrum-half Ben Sanderson, flanker Paul Blaymire having crossed for hosts Selby.

But substitute centre Webster converted his own try nine minutes after the restart, added a penalty seven minutes later and then touched down under the posts after a charge down in the dying moments, kicking the conversion to seal a superb win as Selby leapfrogged Bridlington, climbing three places to seventh in the table.

Yorkshire 2: Skipton ground out a cagey 7-3 win at Leodiensian to stay third in the table.

The Roundhay-based side took the lead with an early penalty in a clash where defences came out on top.

Their West Yorkshire rivals battled back, No 8 Patrick Murray barging over with centre Darren Howson kicking the conversion as Skipton earned the lead and ultimately, the victory.

Forward Murray brushed aside a Leodiensian defender with a hand-off before breaking through another tackle to score the only try of the game midway through the first half as Skipton scored their their third league win on the bounce.

Leaders Huddersfield YMCA extended their advantage to 11 points – albeit with two more games played than many of their rivals – with a 29-8 victory over West Park Leeds.

Their four-try victory gave them a maximum haul from the clash, although at half-time the fate of the game was by no means certain at 15-3.

Prop Lawrence Sanderson touched down for YMCA, as did flanker Sam Hodge, winger Chris Beevors and centre Adam Ryder, while stand-off James Swift kicked three of the conversions and a penalty.

For West Park Leeds, Booth kicked a penalty and Kilvington scored a try, but it was not enough.

Yorkshire 3: Baildon ran in five tries on their way to a 33-0 win over struggling Thornensians in Yorkshire 3.

However, they didn't have it all their own way.

Two early tries in the first five minutes were then followed by a long period of stalemate, and the score was only 14-0 at the interval.

That pattern was repeated after the break, and it was only in the final 15 minutes that the floodgates opened and Baildon ran in three more tries.

Hooker Tom Craven touched down twice, while the others came from second-row Andy Polland, winger Matthew Poulter and flanker Tom Crane, while full-back JJ O'Connell kicked four of the conversions.

Halifax Vandals gave their fight to avoid the bottom three a boost when they beat rivals Northallerton 16-10.

Sheffield Medicals remain top of Yorkshire 4 after a 12-7 win at local rivals Mosborough.

Every game in Yorkshire 5 was postponed due to the weather, meaning Wensleydale still have a five-point lead over Knaresborough at the top.

The team riding high at the summit of the Yorkshire Under-19s North Conference is Old Brodleians with eight wins and one defeat. Huddersfield are just two points behind.

Sheffield are the team to catch in the South Conference, with Doncaster a distant second, 10 points adrift.

Unbeaten Otley are the pacesetters in the Yorkshire Under-17s league.
