Royal Ascot winner Prohibit all set for Knavesmire tilt

A CRACK at the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes is “firmly on the agenda” for Prohibit after his victory in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Robert Cowell’s six-year-old features among 42 entries for the five-furlong showpiece at York on August 19 following his half-length verdict over Australian ace Star Witness.

“We have entered him in the Nunthorpe and that is firmly on the agenda,” said Cowell.

“If we think he is fresh and well before that, there is a Group Two at Glorious Goodwood (Audi Stakes).

“He would have to carry a penalty in that but it’s possible he could go there en route to the Nunthorpe.

“He is fine. As we always do after a race, we have turned him out and he is enjoying his break at the moment.”

Other speedsters in line for Knavesmire include past winners Sole Power, Kingsgate Native and Borderlescott, the latter from the Wetherby stables of Robin Bastiman.

Also entered are Golden Jubilee Stakes victor Society Rock as well as five two-year-olds headed by Bapak Chinta, who took the Norfolk Stakes at the Royal meeting for Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan.

Frankel is one of the headline names among 43 entries for the Juddmonte International at York.

Sir Henry Cecil’s three-year-old star is undefeated in seven starts, including victories in the 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes on his last two outings.

However, he has yet to race beyond a mile and would be a fascinating contender if he lines up over 10 furlongs on Knavesmire in August.

Frankel is owned by Khalid Abdullah, whose breeding empire sponsors the International, and he has multiple Group One winners Midday, Workforce and Twice Over among his other possible challengers.

Aidan O’Brien has made his usual strong entry headed by Hardwicke Stakes hero Await The Dawn and ex-Australian star So You Think. He has entered a total of 15 horses, including St Nicholas Abbey, Zoffany and Misty For Me.

Godolphin are another team with plenty of possibles with Rewilding, a controversial winner at the Royal meeting for Frankie Dettori, among their entries.

Silvestre de Sousa continued his excellent run of form as he swooped late and fast aboard Quite Sparky in the Lloyd Ltd Carlisle Bell Consolation Race at the Cumbrian venue.

The rider enjoyed two memorable wins at Royal Ascot last week and has ridden a further three winners over the last couple of days to take his tally to 54 winners for the year.

He made it 55 in style as he produced Quite Sparky, trained at Malton by David O’Meara, to make his challenge approaching the final furlong of the mile heat.

While One Scoop Or Two tried his best to hang on, he had no answer to Quite Sparky’s finishing kick with the 13-2 shot coming home two lengths clear.
