Royal seal of approval as Wilson joins in the Olympic celebrations

OLYMPIC celebrations have rolled into 2013 for Northallerton’s Nicola Wilson, who has been rubbing shoulders with the Duchess Of Cornwall this week.

Wilson, 36, helped Great Britain to a team eventing silver at last summer’s London Games and has lived the high life since.

Subsequent celebrations last year included invitations to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and now a meeting with Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall has been savoured as well.

The Duchess, the patron of the British Equestrian Federation, hosted a reception held in the majestic formal rooms of Clarence House, London this week to celebrate the achievements of the British equestrian teams at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Over 80 honoured guests, including horse owners, grooms, coaches and team support staff gathered with medallists to enjoy the occasion with last summer’s extravaganza still firmly etched on the mind.

Wilson was joined by her fellow eventing silver medallists Tina Cook, William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and Zara Phillips plus dressage gold medallist Laura Bechtolsheimer.

Show-jumping gold medallist Peter Charles was also present along with Paralympic multi-medallists Natasha Baker, Sophie Christiansen, Deb Criddle and Sophie Wells. Keith Taylor, chairman of the British Equestrian Federation, enthused: “Our patron, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall, is wonderfully supportive of everything we do.

“The Duchess played a very personal tribute in hosting and celebrating the successes of our athletes, their owners and the support staff at Clarence House. “It was a joyous occasion in celebration of the best ever haul of medals at an Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Tomorrow’s Old Raby point-to-point meeting, due to take place at Witton Castle, has been postponed until next Sunday.
