Accountant called in to assess Bulls finances as Caisley heads up review

Bradford Bulls have employed an independent accountant to discover the true extent of their financial woe while ex-chairman Chris Caisley will spearhead a major review of the club before deciding whether he can fully commit to an Odsal return.

Bulls chief executive Ryan Duckett met with the club’s majority shareholders – Caisley, Stephen Coulby and Rowland Agar – yesterday afternoon to discuss matters following the resignation of chairman Peter Hood and Andrew Bennett.

That triumvirate had sought to oust the previous board following the alarming news in March that Bradford needed £1m to stave off administration.

They are now edging closer to taking control and Duckett said: “We had a positive meeting and have appointed a chartered accountant to carry out an independent financial review of the club’s finances.

“On the back of that we are in discussions with a number of potential investors and a professional sports investment consultant has also been asked to give assistance.

“Stephen Coulby and Rowland Agar have agreed to rejoin the Board and former chairman Chris Caisley will provide expert consultancy services whilst he gives consideration to the extent to which he can commit himself to the club in the long term.”

After presiding over the club’s most successful period, guiding them to five successive Grand Finals, Leeds-based solicitor Caisley initially quit in February 2006 due to family commitments. It remains to be seen what role Caisley will adopt in the new regime but apparently he has investors waiting.

“I will lead the strategic review covering all areas of the club’s business in the hope we can complete this as soon as possible,” he said.

“In the meantime the EGM fixed to take place on May 23 will no longer be required and shareholders will be officially notified in the next few days.

“Pending completion of the strategic review and discussions with potential investors, no further comment will be made.”

Former coach Brian Noble is tipped to return which casts doubt on Mick Potter whose deal is up at the end of the season.
