Advice day for the creation of new woodland

Farmers and landowners considering new woodland are invited to attend a free event near Bedale on November 25 at West Arrathorne Farm, Arrathorne, between 9am and 4pm, with lunch included. Speakers will include Peter Harper of the Centre for Alternative Technology, John Tucker of the Woodland Trust and the CLA's forest and woodlands adviser, Mike Seville.

Mr Seville said this week: "Woodland has historically been viewed as more of a liability than a potential source of income generation.

"However, there are now real opportunities for farmers and landowners to profit."

The day will finish with a tour of West Arrathorne Farm, where woodland creation and management has been incorporated into a dairy business.
