Agar expects tough season for Wakefield

It may only be round seven of the Super League season but with the stakes so high this year – the return of relegation added greater fear factor for many – there is little chance to ease up.

Agar has been irked by Trinity consistently being placed in the bracket of those threatened by the drop.

Rightly so as there was enough evidence, in the first half at least, against leaders St Helens last Sunday that they will be competing nearer the top eight.

However, they did fall away to lose and have still only picked up two wins, meaning they sit just one point ahead of tomorrow’s hosts.

“They are all big games for us,” he said.

“Looking down the fixture list I can’t see a moment where we haven’t got a big game or a tough game coming up.

“It’s the same this week. We thought we had a good 40-minute performance against Saints and a not so good second 40.

“I still think we are in the stage where we are finding our best combinations, what plays work for us and how we are going to play against different style of defences.

“We are still very much on a learning curve and it is a big challenge this Sunday.

“Craven Park is always a difficult place to go, with a very vociferous crowd.

“It makes for as hostile an atmosphere as you can face in any away game.”

Rovers picked up their first win of the season when they beat Bradford Bulls 16-0 there on Sunday but Agar believes their performances have warranted more.
