Agar praises Airlie Birds' 'special play' to edge out Bulls

HULL FC head coach Richard Agar hailed his side's determination and resolve after they saw off Bradford Bulls' late surge to secure a 28-22 victory at the Grattan Stadium.

Agar admitted it had taken a "special play" for the Airlie Birds to eventually triumph, although he insisted his side were at their peak when they went back to basics.

"We had been working on being as controlled and basic as we can, and I thought we put in a terrific display of that in the first half," he said.

"In the second half we never really got too many chances and the learning curve for some of those young guys is not to get bored with what we're doing.

"We lost our way when we didn't have the ball at times, but some of them are young guys and it is all about learning for them.

"Tansey played a pretty big role for us today and came up with a bit of magic at the end," he added.

Despite the pitiful run of form, Bradford coach Steve McNamara was pleased with the level of his side's second-half performance and was adamant it merited more.

"I thought our second-half performance probably deserved enough for us to go and win the game," he said.

"I felt we were going to go on and do that; we had the momentum there.

"It was special, freakish, whatever you want to call it, but Jordan Tansey can do that and it has cost us.

"But I think we played pretty well in the second half and showed the way to go for us."
