Agricultural Society honour for man behind the Year Round

The man behind the Year Round column which appears in these pages every week is among those to be honoured for long service at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society has named 18 workers with 700 years of service between them and one is Edward Hart, who reports the diaries of real-life farmers for Year Round – as he has done for the Yorkshire Post since 1965.

The others are: Les Backhouse of Boroughbridge, wagon driver for JC Lister Farms; John Brown of Topcliffe, farm worker for JC Lister; George Cartner of Pickhill, tractor driver, shepherd and handyman for John T Fall Ltd; Mick Dewing of Skelton, near Saltburn, head forester for Skelton & Gilling Estates; Ronald Eggleston of Norwood, near Harrogate, farm manager for Brown Bank Farm; Colin Harris of Skelton, gamekeeper for Skelton & Gilling Estates; Geoff Howard of Ulleskelf, near Tadcaster, farmworker and driver for RM Cornforth & Son; Philip Jackson of Green Hammerton, York, agricultural worker for JD Leather & Partner.
