Wigan Warriors are the latest to see a player contract the virus.

He tested positive after Thursday’s game against Hull KR and is self-isolating.

However, test and trace analysis identified no close contacts in either his own team or the East Yorkshire club so, at this stage, both plan to go ahead with their scheduled fixtures this week.

Both squads will have further tests today.

There has been good news at Wakefield Trinity and Catalans Dragons - clubs who have both had recent positive tests.

They have received the results of their latest round of squad testing for Covid-19 and, in each case, all results were negative.

Wakefield saw Thursday’s game with Leeds Rhinos called off but they are now cleared to return to training this week, to prepare for Thursday’s Super League fixture against Hull FC.

Although they had two players test positive last week, one had already been self-isolating for a week so it was not classed as an outbreak.

Similarly, Catalans - who were supposed to face Leeds tonight - can resume training ahead of Saturday’s Coral Challenge Cup quarter-final against Wigan.

The French club have been informed about the situation arising at Wigan, as have St Helens who are due to face Hull KR in Super League on Thursday.
