Aston and Powell to cross swords after Eagles victory over Skolars

Sheffield Eagles booked a trip to Castleford Tigers by putting 12 tries past London Skolars.

The draw sees Eagles’ boss Mark Aston go head-to-head against his former team-mate Daryl Powell.

Championship One strugglers London could not cope with the Eagles’ pace with full-back Quentin Laulu-Togagae leading the charge and former Huddersfield prop Jack Blagbrough scoring a hat-trick in his third game since joining the club.

Eagles’ coach Aston was frustrated by the way his team often let their defensive guard slip after scoring tries

“We scored 70 points which is great and we looked classy at times but to let 28 points in isn’t what I am about and again that’s down to our attitude,” he said.

“The amount of mistakes after scoring a try is an embarrassment.”

Tries from Michael Knowles, a great pick up by his ankles from Misi Taulapapa and James Davey gave Eagles an early lead.

London hit back with tries from Courtney Davies and Louis Robinson either side of Blagbrough’s first score.

Laulu-Togagae stretched the lead to 30-12 at the break. The scoreboard was soon moving after the restart with USA international Lelauloto Tagaloa’s first try for the club and Blagbrough’s second.

Eagles caught the slack defending bug as Smith claimed two tries split by Laulu-Togagae weaving in for his second.

Jordan Burke, on loan from Warrington, put up the 50 points. Patch Walker raced over but at the other end Lloyd O’Connor squeezed in from dummy half.

Eagles finished with a flourish. Blagbrough completed his hat-trick from Peter Aspinall’s offload and Matt Garside claimed a deserved score. Dominic Brambani kicked 11 goals.
