Aston back to his roots with Eagles as Oulton look to cause Cup shock

Aston – a former Challenge Cup winner and Lance Todd Trophy recipient – was a junior at the Yorkshire club, where his brother Keith and dad Brian also played.

“It’s always nice to go back and see people you played with at an amateur club,” Aston said.

“They had a club reunion last year and I went down to that as well.

“But on the field we’re expecting them to be like any other amateur club coming up against a professional team – wanting to make a big upset and make a name for themselves,” he said.

“They will be dogged and tough, and try to be physical.”

Aston could welcome back a trio of long-term absentees in Michael Knowles, Dane McDonald and Alex Rowe.

Doncaster coach Tony Miller says he is fully aware of the threat posed by Sharlston Rovers and in particular their former professional Craig Miles.

“I went to watch them at the weekend, and I know they’ve been consistently one of the best amateur teams for the last four or five years,” Miller said.

“They’ve got a big pack, Craig Miles can be a real handful on his day, and I’ve coached a couple of the other guys as well.”

Miller will check on injuries to Dean Colton (groin), Paul Cooke (Achilles) and Keiran Hyde (groin) before finalising his line-up.
