Bailey is sidelined as McDermott looks on

Ryan Bailey assisted injury-hit Hunslet Hawks to their third victory in four league games to leave the Skolars still without a win.

Bailey, Leeds’s dual registered England prop, put in a strong stint, watched by Rhinos coach Brian McDermott, but a slight thigh injury needed strapping and he missed most of the second half.

The Hawks were so badly hit by injuries that training was severely restricted during the week but they ran in 11 tries and Danny Ansell landed seven goals after taking over kicking from David March.

Liam Mackay created the first try for hat-trick winger Jamaine Akaidere and although Skolars quickly replied through winger Judd Greenhaven, Mackay’s clever kick-through created a try for James Houston.

March landed the conversion in his 100th appearance for the Hawks and 350th of his long career.

Mackay was involved again when he fed John Oakes who sent Akaidere in for his second try. Then, as the hooter for half-time sounded, Lee Mapals raced away to score between the posts, Ansell tagging on the goal.

Centre Jimmy Watson sent Mapals in for his second try, Lewis Reed soon followed and Matthew Cook sprinted away from inside his own half to score. When Stuart Kain (2) and Luke Stenchion grabbed further tries and Akaidere completed his hat-trick, the Skolars were well and truly on the ropes and Ansell’s accurate goal-kicking piled on the agony.
