Barrow Raiders 54 Keighley Cougars 0: Keighley's woes drag on with Raiders loss

RELEGATED one week, whitewashed by the reigning Championship champions the next – things get no easier for Barry Eaton and his Keighley Cougars.

On the back of their heavy defeat by Batley – which sent them straight back down to Championship One – there was no respite in South Cumbria.

Against the rejuvenated Raiders, the Cougars had no answer to a spell of seven tries in 22 first-half minutes, struggling to get anywhere near the line in the opening period.

Things started badly and got worse for Keighley as Andy Ballard scored Barrow's first from close range and Ned Catic soon followed up with a second.

Martin Ostler, Catic again – after a horrendous error in passing out blindly by Jamaine Wray – and Liam Harrison made it

24-0 before the half-hour, with Ballard and Harrison grabbing their second scores before the break at it soon became 36-0.

After the interval, Jon Presley was stopped by Gary Broadbent and both Luke Helliwell and Andy Schickell were denied.

But after 29 minutes of keeping Barrow to a blank half, Jamie Rooney, Keal Carlile and Anthony Blackwood all scored to make it 54-0 at the close.

The chance of a late consolation for James Hutchinson disappeared as Andreas Bauer came hurtling back with a late tackle to stop what seemed a certain score for the visitors.
