Berrigan free of bite allegations

THE RFL are to take no action over the biting allegation made by Hull KR stand-off Scott Murrell.

Murrell claimed he had been bitten on the arm while making a tackle in his side's 21-4 win over Hull FC in the Super League elimination play-off at the KC Stadium on Saturday. Referee Phil Bentham stopped play after Murrell accused Hull centre Shaun Berrigan, pointing to apparent bite marks on his right arm, and put the incident on report. However, the RFL's match review panel yesterday decided there was inconclusive evidence and ruled that Berrigan will face no further action.

Wigan forwards Joel Tomkins and Chris Tuson were both handed cautions for foul play in their match against Leeds but are free to play in Friday's eliminating tie against Hull KR.

Tomkins kicked out at Leeds stand-off Danny McGuire in the 38th minute and Tuson was ruled to have made dangerous contact on forward Chris Clarkson in the second half. The cautions will remain on both players' records for consideration in the event of future incidents.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats winger Damien Blanch, 27, has left the club after three seasons to join Catalans Dragons on a two-year deal.

The Ireland World Cup star scored 31 tries in 47 Super League games after joining from Castleford in 2008.

Highly-rated Bradford Bulls youngster Joe Wardle has turned down the club's offer of a new deal and could be heading to Huddersfield Giants. The 18-year-old centre made his Super League debut in the 52-6 loss against the Giants in June and made only one other appearance. Although he is out of contract, under RFL rules Bradford should receive around 15,000 compensation for the Halifax-born player.
