The best is yet to come from star man Burns

The Australian’s arrival for the Robins, after finally completing a 12-match ban held over from last season in the NRL, has coincided with the club’s best run of form since last June.

They are bidding for a third successive win at Bradford tomorrow after Burns helped inspire victories over Warrington Wolves on debut and then London Broncos.

The gifted stand-off has yet to taste defeat and Sandercock admitted: “He brings all the things you look for in a player – toughness, desire, attitude and competitiveness.

“He was solid again down in London with a great assist for two tries and his defence was pretty good too but our supporters have not quite seen the best of him yet.”

That would land nicely with the Good Friday derby at fierce rivals Hull FC but Sandercock is not getting ahead of himself with eyes first firmly on a Bradford side that have surprised many with their early returns.

“They’re coming in third in the table, have had some good results and are another side with an absolutely massive forward pack,” said Sandercock.

“Ours needs to hold its own but I’m confident it can do that and the old saying about winning breeding confidence is correct.”

They will be bolstered by the return of England Knights hooker Josh Hodgson after a one-match ban with Craig Hall also hoping to be selected in the only changes to the side that won 42-22 in the capital while the club’s former Halifax, Huddersfield and Great Britain winger David Hodgson is set for his 350th career appearance.

Full-back Greg Eden, meanwhile, says Rovers are maturing as a team after previously frittering away a raft of good leads earlier in the season.

Their 30-6 advantage at London was narrowed to 30-18 at one point last week but the visitors steadied and, he said: “We’ve definitely learnt our lesson. There were some nerves at that scoreline but we didn’t let it slip. We know we can attack, having scored more than 40 points again – it’s just a matter of sorting our defence.”
