Bizarre accident set to rule Liam Watts out of Castleford Tigers' fixture with Catalans Dragons

The 30-year-old required stitches for a surface wound after nicking his arm with the tool while cutting wood.

Because he required stitches, it is unlikely he will play any part on Saturday when the Tigers return to action for the first time in four months against Catalans Dragons.

Castleford are scheduled to play Hull FC the following week and Watts hopes to have recovered in time to face his former club.

“It was just an accident but there is nothing I can do about it,” he said.

“It is frustrating, I have waited all this time to get back playing and then I have done this. I am hoping to be fully fit for Hull, I just need to keep an eye on it and make sure there is no infection and hope it heals well.

“Just as long as I keep it clean and look after it, it should be alright.”

Jesse Sene-Lefao and Daniel Smith could also miss out on Saturday after picking up slight knocks in training while Junior Moors is recovering from a series of operations.

“Jesse has got a little bit of an injury from training, that was when they were training in small groups. Daniel Smith has as well,” revealed head coach Daryl Powell.

“Junior Moors had an operation so he is coming back from that but he is training ok and he is looking much better. He had an extra bone in his knee that needed taken out which is a really unique case."

Sosaia Feki is unlikely to make his Tigers debut this weekend with Powell set to stick with James Clare and Derrell Olpherts as his wing pairing.

The duo both featured in Castleford’s last appearance, a stunning 28-14 win over St Helens, and Powell is to reward their performance in that game with starts on Saturday.

He added: "The players have trained consistently and if you look at the players who played in the St Helens game, they were outstanding.

"There are some of those boys who need to be given the opportunity to restart this season.

"Sosia Feki won't play, for example. James Clare and Derrell Olpherts were wingers in that St Helens game and deserve to start us off again."
