Bradford not getting carried away after their destruction of Giants

It may have been the finest performance during his seven years at Bradford Bulls, but captain Andy Lynch insists no one is celebrating the 36-0 rout of Huddersfield.

Toiling in 11th, they somehow produced the shock of the season with Sunday’s ruthless destruction of potential Grand Finalists.

After such wildly indifferent form of their own, it remains a mystery how near-perfect Bradford dug out such a stellar performance.

Lynch told the Yorkshire Post: “It probably was the most complete display we’ve had, even going back to 2005 (Grand Final win).

“The stats show we made 1,584m in attack and Huddersfield ran 644m; we just blew them away.

“Our kicking game and kick-chase was outstanding and it was nice to be on the front foot especially against a side like Huddersfield who are normally so dominant and physical.

“For the last 20 all we talked about was keeping them nilled but there’s no getting carried away – we made that mistake before.”

When Bradford upset the odds by winning at Leeds Rhinos last month, raising hopes of gate-crashing the play-offs, Lynch admitted the team celebrated “like it had won the Grand Final”.

He said: “That was our biggest downfall. We messed up the next week against Catalan and then again at Castleford learning one win means nothing.

“Nothing was said after Huddersfield. We just started looking to Warrington in two weeks.

“It’s been good to put in a performance like we did but it’s frustrating looking back especially seeing how we lost at Castleford.

“We need to get out of that way. It’s everybody’s goal to reach the play-offs, but we just have to look to beat Warrington first.”

Tenth-placed Bradford, who kept opponents scoreless in a Super League regular round for the first time since 2001, have cut the gap to just three points.

If they can cause another upset at high-flying Warrington, it would set up an intriguing visit from Hull KR, who are challenging directly above, while fixtures against bottom two Crusaders and Wakefield along with Wigan also remain.

Huddersfield winger David Hodgson, 30, has turned down Widnes Vikings to join Hull KR on a three-year deal.

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis rated him one of their “best-ever Super League signings” but cited salary cap constraints as the reason they were unable to extend his prolific four-year stay.

Hodgson said: “As a kid playing for Hull Boys you always dream of playing for your local club – I’ve got that chance from next year.”

The game between the clubs at Galpharm Stadium has been brought forward by Sky TV to Saturday, July 30 (kick-off 7.15pm).
