Brambani puts boot into rivals Dewsbury as Eagles canter home

Sheffield Eagles handed out a master class in taking chances as they ran in eight tries against Dewsbury Rams.

Second row forward Michael Knowles was impressive and half-backs Dominic Brambani and Patch Walker are starting to look at home on the tight Owlerton pitch.

Eagles claimed only their second league win of the season and it was the performance coach Mark Aston had been looking for.

“We’ll get a lot of confidence out of this and get on a roll with a bit of momentum,” he said.

“We let ourselves down in a couple of games but that’s gone.”

Dewsbury dominated the possession in the first half but a mix of sloppy play and determined defence denied them a score.

It was the Eagles who went ahead with two tries from winger Misi Taulapapa.

Rams should have pulled four points back but Ryan Wright lost control of the ball and Eagles’ response was swift with centre Menzie Yere going in for a try.

Dominic Brambani converted three of the tries for a 16-0 lead at half-time.

Knowles’s perfectly timed run increased the lead soon after the restart.

Hooker Gareth Owen raced in and when Walker’s kick hit an upright and bounced back Matt Garside was there to score for Sheffield.

Rams finally found the try line with two scores in three minutes from second rower Wayne Godwin and full-back Louis Sheriff.

Shane Grady converted the second try.

Knowles’s second try and winger Scott Turner’s eighth score of the season kept Sheffield in control.

Brambani finished with seven goals from eight conversion attempts.
