Buderus has appetite to enjoy slice of success with Rhinos

LEEDS Rhinos hooker Danny Buderus will return from a broken leg hungrier than ever to demonstrate his world-class repertoire.

The former Australian Test captain confirmed yesterday he will make his comeback in Sunday's friendly against Bradford after fracturing his tibia at Wigan last July.

Buderus was the biggest signing of Super League XIV having arrived from Newcastle Knights but made just 16 appearances.

He could only watch from the sidelines as his team-mates charged to Grand Final glory but is ready to make up for lost time.

"I arrived with a bicep problem that kept me out six months and then my leg was another six so I feel like I haven't done too much in the last two years," he said.

"It has left me refreshed though. I've got a real hunger for the game now. I'm hungry to be a part of the success this club is enjoying.

"The new season has come around quickly for most people here but I'm feeling ready for a match. It's been a long time."

The Headingley fixture acts as the testimonial for fellow Rhinos hooker Matt Diskin who will lead the side and is one of 12 members of their Grand-Final winning team appearing.

New Australian centre Brett Delaney makes his debut and Buderus said: "I don't think I'll be on too long as it is Disko's game. I'll just jump in when he needs a breather but it'll be great to get out there again."

The 31-year-old will then turn his attention to the start of Super League and next month's World Club Challenge. "I came over here to experience big games in a Rhinos shirt," he said. "I've not done that yet."

Wakefield will have close-season signings Glenn Morrison, Daryl Millard and Shane Tronc making their first bows in a friendly against Wigan on Sunday.

Former Wigan hooker Terry Newton will be on the bench after recovering from a calf muscle injury suffered versus Leeds on Boxing Day.
