Bulldogs plan to build momentum

championship: Batley coach John Kear wants his side to build form going into the play-offs after finally answering their critics.

One of the main Championship contenders came under intense scrutiny until ending a six-game losing run in emphatic style 46-6 at Keighley last week.

They host Barrow Raiders tomorrow hopefully further bolstered by the return of influential hooker Paul Mennell.

Greg Johnson and Ben Black are available again.

“That (Keighley) result has done us the world of good and has stopped people questioning us,” said the Bulldogs chief.

“We were always confident and we always believed in each other, and that belief has been unwavering.

“Now we’ve got four games in which to build some momentum for the play-offs.”

However, he is aware of Barrow’s quality after they defeated high-flying Halifax last week.

“They played really well and didn’t just scratch a win out,” he said. “They were the best team, there’s no doubt about that.

“They played very well and we know they have threats.”
