Bulls zero in on wiping out points deficit

Back-to-back wins over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and London Broncos have seen the Bulls claw back four of the six points they had deducted for entering administration.

Tomorrow they welcome a Giants side who they beat home and away last year, looking to wipe out the deficit and start climbing the Super League table.

With five teams in touching distance – with two points or less – and London and Catalan Dragons on zero, a win tomorrow could even see the Bulls climb off the bottom.

It is a potential lifeline that Bulls coach Francis Cummins hopes will inspire his side to victory at Odsal.

“To lose points at this stage of the season, there’s some clubs not too far away and who knows what’s round the corner?” he said.

“Our first target is to get back to zero points, then we can kick on.

“I want to win every game, and we have to win to stay up. We have to improve on last week.”

That was a disappointing 
44-16 defeat at Hull FC, an eight-try rout that undermined what had been a promising start to what was always going to be a troubled season.

“Against Hull we just gave away too many errors,” admitted Cummins. “We were poor on the night and sometimes that can happen.

“We got down their end three times in the first half, and scored twice. The other time we panicked.

“We have enough quality to score against any team. We just have to stay in the arm-wrestle where we are not giving all that possession over.

“Games against Huddersfield are always tough, they are a good team,” said Cummins. “On the league ladder they would probably have hoped to have been a little bit higher at this stage, but they are just not in form.”
