Castleford 32 Wakefield Wildcats 6: Four-star flier Solomona piles on the points for Cas

Solomona only played the first 20 and last 20 minutes, but crossed for four tries in a convincing win for his side that would have won by a bigger margin had Luke Gale not missed five of his seven kicks.

Castleford opened up a 14-0 lead in the first 13 minutes as Solomona produced two smart finishes either side of a try by Oliver Holmes.

Ashley Gibson was only narrowly denied a score against his former team when held up over the line, and Jacob Miller’s low kick forced a drop-out that allowed the Wildcats to mount some further pressure from which they came up with their first try, Miller’s long pass sending Reece Lyne over in the corner. Liam Finn converted.

That was how it stayed to half-time, although Cas came close to a fourth try when a long range move started by a Grant Millington charge and moved on by Gale ended with Holmes being n held up over the line.

Tigers got back on top and scored on 58 minutes when Luke Dorn backed up a Holmes break. Four minutes later Joel Monaghan dived over in the right corner following a move started by Ryan Hampshire, almost straight off the bench.

It did not take Solomona long to get in the action on his return; he showed blistering pace to race over from 40 metres after Gale’s long ball had caught Wildcats’ defence short out wide and Michael Shenton had taken the move on.

Solomona then dived over in spectacular style for his fourth try three minutes from time after receiving another well timed Shenton pass to complete the scoring.
