Castleford draft in three new directors

Castleford Tigers chief executive Steve Gill feels he is just one “key” appointment away from completing the revamp of the club’s board necessary to start making them competitive.

Since being installed as CEO on a permanent basis last month, he has already added director Steve Vause while bringing in Daryl Powell as new head coach to spearhead the club’s football side.

Gill – keen to see Castleford thriving financially without their traditional reliance on benevolent chairman Jack Fulton – yesterday confirmed three more new directors had accepted invites as he nears finalising his ideal team.

John Duff, managing director of Mend-a-Hose Hydraulics Ltd, as well as Dion Lowe, dealer principal of DM Keith Skoda Ltd and Terry Cheesbrough each join as part of Tigers’ restructuring plan recruiting new and experienced business people.

The West Yorkshire club, which has had three different CEOs in the last 10 months, is desperate to improve its capacity to generate enough income to challenge more adequately in Super League.

Gill said: “All three are successful individuals that bring a new dimension to the board along with business acumen, advice and a commitment to Castleford Tigers.

“They’re each highly respected members of the business community, have their own unique perspective and supported the club over a number of years in various ways from sponsorship of both senior and junior sides to being on the terraces home and away.

“One of the key aspects in making this club successful on and off the field is the restructuring of the board of directors.

“These three and Steve Vause, who joined in April, share our passion for the club and the vision of where we want to be. I believe we need one more key player to join the board and I’m hopeful of announcing that next week.”

Castleford, who face Wakefield Trinity tomorrow, are joint-bottom but showed positive signs in Powell’s first game when they lost just 38-30 at high-ranked Catalan.
