Castleford Tigers 20 London Broncos 42: Unhappy Millward to investigate poor form

DEMORALISED Castleford Tigers have “disintegrated” over the past two weeks, coach Ian Millward admits.

Tigers were crushed by London Broncos at Probiz Coliseum yesterday, a result which lifted the visitors off the foot of Stobart Super League.

Millward admitted he fears Castleford – who are just two points clear of Widnes Vikings and London – are in danger of collecting the wooden spoon.

And he said: “In the last two weeks we have disintegrated as a group.

“The amount of errors we come up with, defensively and attacking-wise, gives us no rhythm or ability to get any confidence.

“We shot ourselves in the foot with a low completion rate and not taking opportunities. We have lost a lot of mojo, a lot of attitude and a lot of consistency.

“It is a product of a lot of things that have been manifesting in this club over the last couple of years.

“We need to get to the bottom of it. I have a plan of attack myself, but I feel there are some things that need to be in better place than previously.”

Millward had words of comfort for 20-year-old Ben Johnston, who made his debut out of position at full-back.

“I don’t blame him,” said the coach. “The reason I brought him off was he has only played 40 minutes in the past two months and I didn’t want to knock his confidence around.”

In contrast, interim London coach Tony Rea paid tribute to his players after they claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Luke Dorn, who had a spell at Castleford in 2008, went over for a first-half hat-trick and added a fourth after the break as London won on the road in Super League for the first time since last March.

This victory lifted them level on points with Widnes but above them due to their superior points difference, leaving Rea in buoyant mood.

The Australian is in temporary charge until the end of the season as the club seek to appoint a new permanent coach to replace Rob Powell.

Rea, who saw his side claim a dramatic home win over Salford the previous week, said: “League position is not something we’ve talked about or even thought about to be honest. The key for us is playing together as a team”
