Castleford Tigers lift lid on new 13,000 capacity stadium (Video)

CASTLEFORD Tigers have unveiled plans for their ambitious new stadium, on land near the Xscape leisure complex at Glasshoughton.

The designs, released in advance of a detailed planning submission in October, have as their centrepiece a 13,300 capacity stadium to be built near Junction 32 of the M62.

It will comprise mostly seating but will retain a large standing section at the request of fans. There will also be hospitality and conferencing facilities.

Building work is due to start next spring with the pitch readied for the start of the 2012 Super League season.

Castleford Tigers chief executive Richard Wright, said: "The new stadium will give the fans the facilities they deserve and assure the future of Castleford Tigers."

The club is giving fans and other interested parties the opportunity to comment on the proposed designs. They will be on view at the Tigers' visitors centre at Xscape between August 16 and 27.

Last month talks between the Tigers and Wakefield Wildcats on a possible ground share broke down after Wildcats ruled out a move to Castleford.
