He publicly apologised for his squad’s embarrassing showing when losing 56-12 at Warrington last week, the visitors having leaked 38 points in as many minutes during an atrocious first half.

“One of the motivations while I’ve been here is to do the people that support us proud,” said the coach, who joined in 2013.

“You don’t get it right all the time and can’t possibly do, but there’s performances that are acceptable and some that aren’t and clearly that wasn’t at Warrington.

“So, in terms of a response and proving to ourselves that we’re a very good team, we need to do a great job against Leeds. We’ve been rattled a little with different things but had a pretty honest week. We’ll get cracking again.”

Huddersfield Giants include Craig Huby in their 19-man squad for the first time this year following a broken hand and also new signing Ryan Brierley is set to debut against Wakefield tomorrow.
