Catalan Dragons 56 Hull KR 6: Tough way to leave Robins, says beaten Morgan

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan reflected on a dismal evening for his team, but backed Catalan Dragons to reach the Grand Final after a crushing 56-6 victory in the Engage Super League elimination play-off.

Damien Blanch scored a hat-trick of tries and Steve Menzies weighed in with two, while there were also scores from Daryl Millard, Sebastien Raguin, Eloi Pelissier, Cyril Stacul and Clint Greenshields.

Scott Dureau slotted eight goals as Rovers were restricted to a try from Craig Hall and Michael Dobson’s kick.

The second week of the play-offs now await Catalan.

Morgan, who will now return home to Australia, said: “It’s tough to go out like that, and no one wants to finish like that.

“There are a lot of blokes in there who have got empty feelings and it will make the journey home a lot longer, but we’ll give it a few days, then reflect on what we have achieved over the last few weeks and recent months.

“I’m very proud of my time at Hull KR, proud of the players and proud of the position I’ve been able to hold within the club.

“The nature of sport is that you win some and lose some. Tonight we’ve lost one, but it is a small part of what has gone before.

“The club will go on to achieve bigger and better things and the people who are leaving will go on to achieve bigger and better things, of that I am sure.

“We didn’t have the bounce of the ball in the early exchanges and we lost our discipline and Catalans played very strongly, and if they continue to play like that, then they’ll have every chance of reaching the Grand Final,” he said.

Catalan Dragons coach Trent Robinson insisted he had been taking nothing for granted against Hull KR.

Robinson said: “I don’t think we came into the game thinking we would win 56-6, the boys were really on their game tonight.

“Hull KR have been playing really well in recent weeks and they should be applauded for how they’ve finished the season.

“Tonight was Justin’s last game with the club and they played with a lot of heart.”
