Catalans Dragons 16 Hull Kingston Rovers 10: Colbon spends night in French hospital after Rovers loss

Hull KR winger Liam Colbon was released from hospital in Perpignan yesterday after being cleared to return to England with his team-mates.

The 25-year-old former Wigan player was admitted to hospital with a suspected broken jaw sustained in Rovers' 16-10 Engage Super League defeat by Catalans Dragons at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday night.

Colbon checked out yesterday morning in time to catch the club's return flight and will go for further x-rays in Hull to determine the extent of the injury.

"Liam was knocked out and he was in a pretty bad way when the medical team took him away," said Hull KR coach Justin Morgan.

"I only saw the incident live but I know it was put on report so the RFL will have a look at that."

The Rugby Football League's match review panel will today decide whether to take any action after studying referee Ben Thaler's report and video footage of the incident.

Morgan was left to count the cost of this defeat after seeing both his wingers leave the game through injury.

Peter Fox also went off after 60 minutes with a leg injury.

"Peter got a dead leg so he couldn't complete the game, so that threw us into a battle as we reshuffled the side," he said.

"Hopefully, he will be okay. It was a case of too little two late here in France.

"I thought in the first half we had ample opportunity to put some points on the board.

"We bombed a few chances with our execution but I take my hat off to the Catalans team because they defend with a great deal of desperation."

Catalans had to withstand a late Rovers rally, with the East Yorkshire side scoring two tries in three minutes after it had looked as though they were going to be nilled for the second time this season.

Rovers dominated the early exchanges, but chances went begging when Fox and Colbon dropped poor passes.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 33rd minute, against the run of play. Dragons full-back Chris Walker slipped through and Steven Bell went low to score despite Ben Galea's desperate tackle. Thomas Bosc, back from injury, converted and repeated the feat after David Ferriol's pass outside to Dane Carlaw saw the second-rower score.

Scott Murrell's attacking kick was blocked and in an instant, Catalans were lining up to score. Cyrille Gossard took the honour, leaping over the line in style. Bosc missed the conversion.

Rovers got themselves back in the game with just over seven minutes remaining when Jake Webster managed a try in the right-hand corner. Dobson converted.

The travelling Rovers fans were cheering moments later when Colbon palmed the ball into Kris Welham's path for Rovers' second try in three minutes, but Dobson's goal attempt drifted wide. It was too little too late for Morgan's men.
