Challenge laid down for Brown's side to find consistency

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS' coach Nathan Brown watched his side mount a dramatic comeback and then challenged them to find the consistency required to reach Old Trafford.

They were heading towards a catastrophic sixth defeat in seven games yesterday after falling 18-0 behind inside half an hour at home to Hull FC.

A raft of mistakes saw Huddersfield – much-fancied at the start of the season – deliver an awful performance which only threatened to get far worse.

However, they got back in it just before the break and then destroyed the East Yorkshire club in the second period to secure a victory which leaves them just two points adrift of fourth-placed Hull and one behind Leeds Rhinos, following their surprise defeat to Crusaders at Headingley Carnegie yesterday.

"There were no magic words," insisted Brown.

"We just started controlling the ball. That gave us a chance and it was something we didn't do in the first 15 minutes when we dropped it on tackle one, two or three times in a row.

"When we started playing well we showed what we were capable of.

"To come back from 18-0 down to beat a team riding high in fourth place shows what we're capable of when we get everyone on the same page at the same time.

"The big lesson for us is we need to learn why they dominated us at the start and why we then dominated them. We just need to find some consistency.

"If we can do that there's a good chance we'll have something to celebrate at the end of the season."

Brown praised his bench of Larne Patrick, Graeme Horne, Brad Drew and David Faiumu after they all made an impact during the impressive rally.

"Larne was terrific, Horney played his first time in the front row and did a good job, Drewy just gives us nice composure and Fui was outstanding," he said.

"I think he was about the best player in the field while Brett (Hodgson) is getting better again now he's been doing some training."

Hull coach Richard Agar had no complaints about referee James Child despite seeing his side concede nine straight penalties.

"Some of them were deserved and there were some pretty lazy efforts out there from our big men," he said.

"There was a little bit of ill-discipline and we got what we deserved.

"It was a really, really sloppy start to the second half. We knew what Huddersfield could do with the ball and if they have such a mountain of possession it eventually takes its toll.

"Our focus at start of the second period hurt us. There was a couple of poor sets, one led to another, and we couldn't break the stranglehold of momentum."
