Championship/Challenge Cup: Briscoe bags club try record with hat-trick in runaway Rovers' win

Hat-trick hero Luke Briscoe set a new tryscoring record for Featherstone Rovers as he scored for the 11th successive game in a 42-0 Championship win at Rochdale Hornets.

Briscoe, brother of Leeds winger Tom, took his seasonal tally to 20 in a one-sided match.

Centre Harry Newman, playing on dual regristration from the Rhinos, also scored three tries for John Duffy’s side as they boosted their top-four hopes. Martyn Ridyard and Josh Hardcastle also crossed for the visitors, with the former also landing five goals.

Batley Bulldogs made it back-to-back wins over Easter with a 28-14 success at Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Eagles.

Trailing 10-4 at the break, a strong second-half performance saw Batley home, with tries for Dave Scott, Dane Manning, Wayne Reittie, Tom Hemingway and Pat Walker, who also booted four goals. Josh Toole, Olly Davies and Ryan Millar touched down for home side Sheffield with Oscar Thomas adding a goal. The match between Dewsbury Rams and Halifax was postponed.

In Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Round 4, Hunslet were beaten 34-10 at home by Bradford.

Hunslet were in contention, trailing only 14-10 at half-time. Stand-off Joe Sanderson scored all the points with a try and three goals. Matty Garside, Ethan Ryan, Liam Johnson, Elliot Minchella and Josh Rickett scored the tries for Bulls, with Dane Chisholm landing seven conversions.
