Changes threatened at Batley by Harrison

ANGERED Batley Bulldogs coach Karl Harrison has warned his under-performing players they will be released if their mediocrity continues.

He is expected to make a host of changes for tomorrow’s Championship game against Hunslet Hawks at Mount Pleasant following a woeful 36-6 loss at his former club Featherstone Rovers.

Batley have not picked up any fresh injuries but Harrison will drop some personnel given the dire standard of that display.

“Some of these players are probably quite happy being mid-table and I’m not that sort of bloke,” he said. “They either come to the party or they leave – it’s as simple as that.

“You don’t become a bad team overnight but we were our worst enemy and were made to pay.

“We were very, very poor but you’ve got to give credit to Featherstone who were quite excellent on the day.”

Batley had produced a quality performance to defeat Heavy Woollen rivals Dewsbury and keep them scoreless a week earlier and Harrison demands a similar showing against promoted Hunslet.

However, their unbeaten visitors are buoyant following a stunning win at Widnes, who remain favourites to be elevated to Super League for 2012-14 when the RFL board of directors make their licence decision on Thursday.

“We’re full of confidence now,” said Hawks player-coach Paul March, who is not expected to play as he struggles to overcome a groin injury and sees Adam Sullivan begin a two game suspension.

“The key is making sure we don’t get carried away. It’s a tough game again this week.

“If we can pick points up over the next two games then we’ll be well on our way but Batley had a disappointing result and they’ll come out all guns blazing.”

March added: “Defensively we proved to be strong against Widnes.

“There were times when they did break us but everybody was scrambling for each other and that was massive for me to see as a coach.”
