Chappel at head of Rovers’ charge

CHAMPIONSHIP: Featherstone Rovers claimed one of their toughest victories of the season on the road with a deserved 22-16 win at Leigh Centurions.

The visitors grabbed four tries, including a double from winger Nathan Chappel, who has now claimed eight tries in four games.

The Centurions opened the scoring through Tommy Goulden, Martyn Ridyard converting but Rovers hit back after Matty Dale saw a ‘try’ disallowed.

Liam Finn’s grubber kick found Andy Kain and he grounded for Finn to goal.

Featherstone claimed their second try when Kain, Andy Bostock and Sam Smeaton combined for Chappel’s first. Finn failed with the kick.

The hosts started the second half strongly, but Rovers cut away and Andy Ellis went over.

Leigh pulled a try back through Brierley but when Centurions coughed up possession Smeaton sent Chappel in.

Leigh scored a third try late on through Steve Maden but Rovers had proved too strong.
