Collis’s class ensures he is straight back in for Wakefield

Relieved Wakefield Trinity Wildcats centre Dean Collis will not pay any further price for the indiscretion that earned him a one-match ban.

The Australian instantly regains his place for tomorrow’s critical game at Hull KR, something he may not have taken for granted following replacement Danny Cowling’s handy debut in the stunning win over St Helens.

However, Collis – a fine acquisition from Cronulla Sharks – has built up enough stock during his previous displays this season to persuade coach Richard Agar to change that victorious team.

“Dean is obviously a class player for us so he will come straight back into the 17,” he said.

“We will decide the make-up of the team as we go along and Danny Cowling will keep his place in the 19-man squad.

“We’ll look at what the best 17 is to play this game but it’s fair to say Dean will be there after his week off through suspension.”

Isaac John, unused in the
19-man squad last week, misses out as 10th-placed Wakefield head to Craven Park to try to force their way into the top eight for the first time this season.

They have defeated ambitious Huddersfield Giants, champions Leeds Rhinos, arch-rivals Castleford Tigers and Saints on a brilliant four-match winning run.

If they can extend that sequence to five tomorrow – and Bradford lose at Huddersfield – they will usurp Rovers from the final play-offs spot.

“It’s going to be a tough trip for us because there’s a lot riding on it for both clubs,” Agar said.

“But I don’t think it will settle anything. It will go a long way towards it but we aren’t concentrating on the top eight.

“We are very much in the mix and if we do get into the top eight it will be a tremendous achievement for everybody involved – the players, fans and the administration of the club.

“It would be a reward for everybody’s hard work but we can’t look beyond this week.

“I am confident whatever happens, win or lose, we’ll be taking it right to the wire, to round 27.”

Wakefield’s remaining games see them host bottom-placed Widnes Vikings and then visit a Salford side in freefall.

Rovers, meanwhile, must go to title-chasing Wigan and entertain lowly London while Bradford have tough appointments against Hull and a final-day trip to Perpignan.
