Contented Paea keen for Hull to back up Saints win

In-form prop Mickey Paea has assured Hull FC fans he is happy at the club ahead of tonight’s match against Widnes Vikings at the KC Stadium.

The 29-year-old joined the Black and Whites from rivals Hull KR ahead of the 2014 season on a two-year deal which expires at the end of this campaign.

He has been one of Hull’s outstanding performers so far and is not without his suitors, but the Tonga international is keen to extend his stay at the KC.

“I’m definitely happy at Hull,” he said.

“They’ve been very good to myself and my wife. They’ve been a great club for us and I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

“I’m definitely keen to stick around. It’s something I’m looking to sort out over the next month.”

Paea started both matches over Easter weekend and experienced contrasting emotions, with a defeat on home soil by his former club in the Hull derby followed by victory over champions St Helens.

He admitted the performance against Rovers was not good enough and says he is determined to put smiles back on the faces of the Hull faithful as the Airlie Birds go in search of successive wins for the first time in 2015.

“It’s another opportunity to get back-to-back wins and, more importantly, get a win at home in front of our fans after last week’s result,” Paea added.

“We didn’t play too well in the derby and they deserved better than that. To their credit, they came out in numbers at Saints.

“If we can back that win up with another one Friday, it would give us a good platform to kick on from.”

Paea says the 28-20 triumph at Langtree Park has lifted the mood inside the camp and given the team “a spring to bounce off”.

But he knows that feeling will soon disappear if the Black and Whites again fail to build on an impressive win at the end of a busy Easter schedule.

“Everyone knows it’s a tough period but we’ve just got to get up for another game and back up that result,” Paea said.

“Widnes are in the same boat as us – they had a decent start and have been unlucky in a few games ,but will want to move clear from the bottom, too.”
