Cougars denied by Higson try

Lee Higson’s last-gasp try for Leigh saw a spirited Keighley robbed of victory over the league leaders at Cougar Park.

It was a bad start for Cougars as Bob Beswick, forced his way over the line before the home side hit back with a Barnett try.

Leigh continued to look on top, though, as Stuart Littler dribbled the ball 70 yards, with Brierley then scoring the try.

Paul Handforth danced around a couple of would-be tacklers and then found James Craven in support to finish, but Ridyard managed to slot over a penalty goal just before the break to make it 12-20. That would prove crucial in the end.

Keighley took the lead with tries from Daley Williams and Jack Lee, Danny Jones slotting over a penalty. Higson replied with a try for Leigh. But, with just two minutes left on the clock, Higson cruelly went over on the edge again to give Leigh victory.
