The Airlie Birds dropped to third after Saturday’s 22-22 draw at winless Warrington Wolves.

They had led 20-4 just before the interval but were left clinging on at the death following some awful mistakes after the break against Super League’s bottom club.

Hull almost came unstuck at Wigan the previous week when a 22-0 lead early in the second period was eroded to just 22-20.

Australian second-row Minichiello said: “It was tough out there. It always is when you come to Warrington.

“We got off to a good start but then just second-half silly errors let them back into the game.

“Giving them that much ball they will press your line and they did that and scored some good tries in the corner.

“It was our mistakes that let them back into the game, though, and it’s happened for the last couple of weeks now so we really have to address that to move forward.”

Hull host fourth-placed Salford Red Devils on Friday, a side who have impressed after narrowly missing relegation in last year’s ‘Million Pound Game’.

Minichiello, 35, added: “I think it was a point lost on Saturday the way the game was panning out and to then come away with one point like that.

“We’ll address it to see where we can improve as we’ve a tough game against Salford on Friday.”

Warrington, whom Hull beat in last season’s Challenge Cup final, look like they are set to come out of their early-year slump.

“They are a great team,” insisted Minichiello.

“You look across the park and with the quality of players they have they are going to come good.

“No doubt they’ll be hard to beat wherever they play. I expect them to start winning very soon.”
