The event is currently the only college stockmanship competition in the UK and the purpose is to provide students with an insight into the preparation, handling and showing of stock.

It has been held each year since the early 1960s and will next year celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Mr Towers said: "I have done a bit of showing before, but this competition really gives us the chance to get out and get some hands-on experience."
