Danny Washbrook reveals desire to lead home-town club Hull FC to Super League crown

The utility player is set to reach the milestone when the Airlie Birds face Catalans Dragons at KCOM Stadium tonight.

Asked about his first Super League match for his hometown side back in 2005, Washbrook recalled: “I came on and we were about 30 points up against St Helens at our place.

“I could have got a try with my first touch but Horney kept it and scored a try himself.

“It feels like an eternity ago now but I am very honoured to hit this milestone.”

Washbrook, 31, helped Hull lift the Challenge Cup in August during his first season back after four years with Wakefield Trinity.

He wants to go on and win the highly-fancied club’s maiden Super League title this term having played in their only Grand Final so far, a 2006 loss against St Helens.

“It’d mean everything to do that being a Hull lad,” added the player, who who also made his 250th Super League appearance in the 12-8 opening day win at Wakefield.

“Obviously, probably in my first real Super League season we managed to get to a Grand Final and it was a really good experience but I probably did not treasure it as much as I should have done.

“If I get back this time and reverse that result it would be a lot better.”

On Catalans, he added: “They showed up really well in the first week with a win over Warrington while we had to grind out a tough victory at Wakefield.

“But we want to make the KCOM a fortress and need to start that by getting a win in our first home game of the year.

“The club’s gone big to get a big crowd down there - more than 13,000 - so it should be bouncing.”
