Dave Woods: It could be the year of the Dragons in 2015

I am quite excited for the “New Era” but it has to convince us now by working.

We’ve been told how exciting it is and how it will change the face of the game. But I’ve lived through and reported on several such game-changers.

On the face of it, it is getting people interested if only to see how it will actually work.

Catalan Dragons could be a team to watch this season.

They’ve made some world-class signings with Todd Carney in the halves and getting Remi Casty back from the NRL, too.

They had a poor start last year when there was some trouble in the camp but they then put some really good performances together in the play-offs.

If they can build on that I can see them challenging, if not actually making a first Grand Final.

But when it comes to who will win it I think it will be the usual suspects and, from them, I’d probably say St Helens will do it again.

They took it last year almost by default but they can’t have as big an injury crisis again.

They’ll have Luke Walsh back fit this time and the big question mark will be whether he can be as effective as he was before that injury in 2014.

As for Man of Steel, I’m going to go with Carney. He’s a terrific player and could be a great addition for Catalan.
