Day of reckoning for Eagles at Shay

championship: Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston has described tomorrow’s trip to Northern Rail Cup winners Halifax as “judgement day” in their bid to challenge for Championship glory.

The South Yorkshire club have won seven of their last nine games and know they will move above Halifax into second place if they can secure a winning margin of 13 points or more at The Shay.

“We need to go to Halifax with the right attitude and be really dominant,” admitted Aston, who has Irish winger Tom Bergin fit again but doubts over Joe Hirst (knee) and Menzie Yere (calf).

Halifax, who defeated Championship leaders Featherstone in an epic Northern Rail Cup final at Blackpool on Sunday, could be strengthened by the return of centre Ben Heaton, but Ross Divorty could miss another six weeks as he battles to return from an ankle problem.
