Departing Doncaster chief Miller scoops Coach of the Year double

He is departing after 23 years’ association with the South Yorkshire club having guided his side to sixth in their first year back in the Championship after clinching promotion in 2012 – when he won Championship One Coach of the Year.

The coveted Premier Sports Championship Player of the Year is Sheffield Eagles prop Mitch Stringer, whose consistent performances throughout the season earned the prop the award ahead of fellow shortlist members Aaron Brown (Dewsbury Rams) and Ryan Brierley (Leigh Centurions).

Stringer’s time with Sheffield started a decade ago and, after spells in Super League with Salford City Reds and London Broncos, he re-joined in 2006 .

The captain will be aiming to lead his side to a second consecutive Championship title on Sunday when they face Batley Bulldogs in the Grand Final at Leigh, a third year running the South Yorkshire club have reached the showpiece.

The Kingstone Press Championship Young Player of the Year award went to Leigh’s Brierley, the ex-Castleford Tigers half-back who enjoyed a successful campaign as the Centurions finished fourth and defeated Sheffield in the Northern Rail Cup final.

Halifax, meanwhile, were named Championship Club of the Year and Andy Jordan, who works as part of the Batley backroom team, was presented with the prestigious Northern Star award which celebrates an individual’s work in the community during the season.

North Wales Crusaders’ highly successful campaign has been recognised with three major awards, highlighting their dominance in the 2013 Kingstone Press Championship One season.

Jono Smith won the Player of the Year award, whilst Crusaders coach Clive Griffiths – who also runs Doncaster RU – was presented with the Coach of the Year award after his success in leading the team to the Championship One title and Northern Rail Bowl.

Finally, the Welsh outfit lifted the Club of the Year too.
