Dewsbury Rams 12 Batley Bulldogs 30: Poor start overcome as Bulldogs romp to derby victory over Rams

BATLEY Bulldogs denied arch-rivals Dewsbury a potential bonus point, a late surge seeing John Kear’s men home to an impressive derby triumph at the Tetley’s Stadium.

The visitors overturned a 12-point deficit to lead by four at the break, kicking on from there to prevent the hosts from scoring in the second half.

Karl Pryce fired the hosts ahead with a try on six minutes.

And Dale Morton added the extras, before improving a Greg Scott touchdown from out wide.

Back came the away side, though, with tries coming courtesy of half-back Tom Hemingway, who also landed a total of four conversions, Johnny Campbell and former Ram Ayden Faal.

Batley picked up from where they left off following the interval, Jason Walton scoring 14 minutes in to make it 22-12.

And they weren’t done there either.

Alex Bretherton had a certain score ruled out by the man in the middle.

But it didn’t matter as another ex-Ram wrecked the hosts’ consolation, Bulldogs hooker George Flanagan going over from close range three minutes from time. The Bulldogs continued to dominate with the final quarter approaching.

Kicker Hemingway added insult to injury, hammering over a penalty goal from the halfway line during the dying seconds.
